Our doctors and how an appointment works

At PsyHelp24, patients are seen by a team that includes a psychiatrist-narcologist, a psychiatrist, a narcologist (addiction specialist), a psychotherapist and a clinical psychologist. They work as one team, so each patient benefits from several areas of expertise at once. Below you can learn about our specialists and what to expect from a consultation. Appointments in English are available on request.

Our doctors

A team of specialists

Our clinic brings together doctors and psychologists of different specialties so that each patient receives comprehensive care. Psychiatrists diagnose and treat mental health conditions, addiction specialists deal with alcohol, drug, medication and behavioral addictions, psychotherapists provide talking therapies, and clinical psychologists carry out psychological assessment and support.

A psychiatrist-narcologist is especially valuable when mental health problems and substance use occur together, while the psychiatrist, narcologist, psychotherapist and clinical psychologist each bring their own focus to the treatment plan. Difficult cases are discussed jointly, so the patient benefits from the experience of the whole team.

How to choose a doctor

If you are unsure which specialist you need, you do not have to decide on your own. Call us or write on WhatsApp and briefly describe the situation. The doctor on duty will ask a few questions during the free phone consultation and recommend the most suitable specialist and format — clinic, home visit or online.

You can also ask for a specific doctor, a doctor of a particular gender, or an English-speaking doctor. We will do our best to take your preferences into account. If the first meeting does not feel right, you can always switch to another specialist — the fit between patient and doctor matters for successful treatment.

Before the appointment

To make the first consultation as useful as possible, it helps to prepare a little in advance. Think about when your difficulties started, what makes them better or worse and how they affect your daily life. If you have seen other doctors, bring any medical documents, test results and a list of the medicines you are taking, including the doses written on the packaging.

For expats, documents from your home country are also helpful, even if they are in another language: our doctor will review them together with you. If you would like a family member to join the consultation, let us know when booking.

How the first consultation goes

The first appointment usually lasts longer than a follow-up visit, because the doctor needs time to understand your situation in detail. The psychiatrist or addiction specialist asks about your current complaints, your history, your physical health, sleep, appetite, substance use, work and relationships. There are no wrong answers, and you can decide what you are ready to talk about.

At the end, the doctor explains their assessment in clear language, discusses possible diagnoses and offers a treatment plan. If additional tests are needed — psychological testing, EEG or laboratory tests — the doctor will explain why. You can ask any questions and take time to consider the recommendations.

Treatment plan and follow-up

A treatment plan may include psychotherapy, medication, lifestyle recommendations, involvement of the family and, if needed, a day hospital or inpatient care. The doctor explains the expected effects of each part of the plan, possible side effects and how long treatment is likely to take.

Follow-up visits are essential: they allow the doctor to assess progress, adjust medication and support you through difficult periods. Follow-ups can take place in the clinic or online, which is convenient for people with a busy schedule or living in another city.

Home visits

When a patient cannot come to the clinic, our doctors come to them. A home visit is often the best option during a drinking binge, in an acute anxiety or psychotic state, for older people with limited mobility, and for those who value maximum privacy. Doctors arrive discreetly, without marked vehicles.

During the visit, the doctor examines the patient, provides necessary medical care and decides whether treatment can continue at home or hospitalization is advisable. Home visits are available 24/7 in the cities where we work.

Online consultations

Online video consultations allow you to talk to a psychiatrist or psychotherapist from any place where you feel comfortable. This format is convenient for follow-up visits, for patients in other cities, for people traveling and for those who find it easier to start talking from home.

Online consultations follow the same principles of confidentiality as in-person appointments. However, some situations require a face-to-face examination, and the doctor will tell you if this is the case.

Confidentiality and respect

Everything you tell your doctor remains between you and the clinic. Treatment is anonymous and does not lead to registration, and information about it is protected as a medical secret under the law of Kazakhstan. Our doctors treat every patient with respect, without judgment and without pressure.

If you have any concerns about privacy, ask about them at the very beginning — the doctor will explain how your data is stored and in which rare cases documents are required.
